Rutgers Criterium stages March 1-2, 2003 ECCC opener in Piscataway, NJ

In the first weekend of the Eastern Collegiate Cycling Conference (ECCC)
racing season, Rutgers University has put together a bicycle race destined
to be an overnight classic. Two events held on the Rutgers State University
of NJ campus will be the first arena for 2003 competition for all Northeast
colleges and universities.

Saturday, March 1st's event is an exciting 2-mile circuit race on campus.
"Our circuit race is basically shutting down one whole campus for the day,
blocking off 16 parking lots in the process" said race promoter Ben Ollett
of the Rutgers team. Looking forward to hosting the race weekend, Ollett
impressively added this second day of competition to the weekend.

Sunday, March 2nd's event is a criterium held in the beautiful Rutgers
Botanical Gardens. The fast and flat course is an exceptional race for
a season opener, as many competitors have been challenged by the harsh
Northeast winter of 2003. With many students focused on their studies
and indoor training, this first competitive outing will be a great
opportunity to test the legs and lungs.

For Saturday night, Rutgers has organized a dinner and movie showing for
all collegiate competitors. "The friendly, social atmosphere at collegiate
races is one of the best parts of racing your bike in college," stated
Mark Abramson, ECCC Conference Director. "Rutgers has done a great job
assembling not just a great pair of races, but also a fantastic and fun
weekend."

The Eastern Collegiate Cycling Conference (ECCC) includes colleges in
Delaware, New England, New Jersey, New York, and Pennsylvania. As they
compete from early March through April, ECCC teams vie for the top of the
season-long team points standings, Collegiate Nationals qualification
team spots, and the Ivy League trophy. The inexpensive races feature
team-oriented bicycle racing for all abilities with team pride, glory,
and honor as the only prize list.
